We, at the Deaf Welfare Awareness Foundation (DWAF), aim to protect and empower deaf girls and women across Pakistan through a comprehensive awareness and training program. Our project focuses on raising awareness about harassment, providing sign language training, and fostering inclusion in society. The issue at hand is the rampant harassment faced by deaf girls and women in Pakistan. They lack awareness, protection, and support systems to deal with such situations. This vulnerability is further exacerbated by communication barriers, as many do not know sign language. Without the proper resources, these women struggle to protect themselves and assert their rights, leading to an unsafe environment. Our project aims to address these gaps and create a safer, more inclusive society.
This project will solve the problem by conducting awareness sessions across Pakistan, educating deaf girls and women about harassment and self-defense. The first step will be training them in sign language and empowering them with the skills to recognize and report harassment. Additionally, we propose introducing a helpline in liaison with local governments or an app, allowing instant communication for support and assistance, ensuring that they can seek help whenever needed.
The long-term impact of this project will be the empowerment and inclusion of deaf girls and women in society. By providing education, awareness, and self-defense tools, we aim to reduce harassment and discrimination. Over time, this initiative will foster greater social acceptance and active participation of deaf women in all sectors.
