Updates from Uganda
Thank you all for your support of the children at the Bwetyaaba Primary School in Uganda! Our main goal is to improve access to education for orphaned and vulnerable youth in the Kayunga District. We are well on our way to reaching our goal of raising $10,000 on Global Giving to provide each school-aged girl and boy with the resources they need to attend school – a new backpack, uniform, school supplies, shoes and lunch assistance.
“Today in class, teachers see changed attitudes. Learners/students participate in class work with vigor,” says BUVAD (Butakoola Village Association for Development) chairman Ssemutumba Stephen. This was Stephen’s assessment in a follow-up visit after Global Backpack Project delivered supplies to the school in April. Additionally, enrollment in the school has increased.
New Opportunities
The school is currently working on two impressive projects which will help ensure future educational opportunities for the children:
Challenges
The children of Bwetyaaba Primary School continue to face unimaginable challenges each day. As 90% of them are orphaned or vulnerable youth, an education is critically important to escape the cycle of poverty and learn income-generating skills. In order to attend school, each child is required to have a uniform, supplies and shoes. By reaching our goal of raising $10,000, Global Backpack Project will be able to support the education of each child in the school. Additionally, we aim to support long term sustainability projects that will ensure success for years to come.
Stay Tuned
The children of Bwetyaaba Primary School will soon receive a delivery from Global Backpack Project! We expect a grand celebration and will be sure to share the good news with you. Thanks for your support!
