Your support will help improve access to education for orphaned and vulnerable children in the Kayunga District in Uganda. Government sponsored education is free, but school uniforms and supplies are required. Global Backpack Project aims to deliver backpacks, school supplies, uniforms and shoes to 650 orphaned and vulnerable children attending or hoping to attend the Bwetyaaba Primary School. Research has shown that education is the single most effective way to escape the cycle of poverty.
95% of the 650 girls and boys of the Bwetyaaba Primary School are orphaned and vulnerable children. Although school is free, these children do not have the resources to obtain the required uniform and supplies to attend school. This spring, Global Backpack Project delivered backpacks and supplies to 300 children of the school, allowing many to return to the classroom. Your donation will help the remaining children by providing them with the necessary items needed for school.
Global Backpack Project supports the education of these 650 children by providing them with backpacks, school supplies, uniforms, lunch assistance and shoes needed to attend school. Without these items, these girls and boys will either not attend school at all or will have to drop out. Each additional year of school a child receives can improve his/her future earnings by 10%. With your support, we can make a direct impact on the livelihood of hundreds of children and their community at large.
Improving access to education for orphaned and vulnerable girls and boys is the first step to improving their living conditions. An education provides children with the skills and knowledge to prepare them for local income-generating projects when they get older, and allow them to help themselves and their communities. Education can lead to long-term economic growth and ultimately towards sustainable development.
