Reporting Period: 2026

Project: Help Educate and Care for Vulnerable Children

1. INTRODUCTION

Eastlander Child care Organization Uganda (ECCOU) is committed to ensuring that vulnerable children and young people in underserved communities have access to education, basic necessities, healthcare, protection, and opportunities to build a better future.

Our “Help Educate and Care for Vulnerable Children” project responds to the urgent challenges faced by children and youth from poor and vulnerable households in Kibuku District, Eastern Uganda.

Education remains one of the strongest pathways out of poverty. However, many children in our communities continue to miss school because their families cannot afford tuition, scholastic materials, uniforms, shoes, meals, and other basic school requirements.

2. WHAT WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ACHIEVE

Although the project has received limited financial support through the fundraising campaign, we have not stopped serving the community.

ECCOU has continued mobilizing support from local churches, community members, friends, well-wishers, and other local supporters. These contributions, although modest, have enabled us to respond to some of the most urgent needs.

With the support available, we have been able to:

Education Support

  1. Provide scholastic materials to vulnerable children and youth.
  2. Support selected children with school tuition.
  3. Help some children remain in school instead of dropping out.
  4. Provide basic learning materials needed for children to participate in class.
  5. Follow up with schools and families concerning children facing educational difficulties.

Community Support

We have worked with local churches, community members, parents, schools, and well-wishers to identify children and young people facing the greatest challenges.

Their support has demonstrated that even small contributions can make a meaningful difference in a child's life.

3. THE PROBLEM WE CONTINUE TO FACE

Despite these achievements, the need remains far greater than the resources currently available.

Many families in our communities live with extremely limited incomes. Parents and caregivers often struggle to provide food for their families, let alone meet school-related costs.

Children are therefore at risk of:

  • Dropping out of school because of unpaid tuition.
  • Attending school without adequate scholastic materials.
  • Going to school without proper shoes or uniforms.
  • Missing classes because of financial difficulties.
  • Going hungry during the school day.
  • Experiencing preventable health problems.
  • Losing hope of continuing their education.

For vulnerable children, a small unpaid school requirement can become the difference between remaining in school and dropping out completely.

4. THE NEED IS URGENT

ECCOU continues to receive requests for support from children, parents, caregivers, schools, and community leaders.

The greatest challenge we face is limited funding compared with the growing number of children requiring assistance.

Our local supporters have done what they can, but they cannot meet the full level of need.

We therefore need to expand our support beyond our local community and connect with individuals, churches, foundations, companies, philanthropists, fundraising groups, and international partners who believe that every child deserves an opportunity to learn and thrive.

5. WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS

A donation to this project is not simply a financial contribution.

It can mean:

A child stays in school.

A child receives the books needed to learn.

A young person gets another opportunity to continue their education.

A hungry child receives food.

A vulnerable family receives hope.

When we invest in children today, we are investing in the future of the community.

6. OUR PRIORITIES GOING FORWARD

With additional funding, ECCOU will prioritize:

1. Tuition Support

Helping vulnerable children who are at immediate risk of dropping out because of unpaid school fees and related educational costs.

2. Scholastic Materials

Providing exercise books, pens, pencils, mathematical sets, school bags, uniforms, shoes, and other essential learning materials.

3. Food and Nutrition

Supporting vulnerable children with meals and emergency food assistance where needed.

4. Health Support

Helping children access basic medical care, health education, referrals, and other essential services.

5. Youth Support

Supporting vulnerable youth with education, mentorship, life skills, and opportunities that can help them become self-reliant.

7. A CALL TO DONORS AND PARTNERS

We are appealing to individuals and organizations who can join us in this mission.

To our donors:

Please consider making a contribution, whether small or large. Every contribution can help us reach another child.

To churches:

We invite churches and faith communities to partner with ECCOU through donations, sponsorships, prayer, school support, and community outreach.

To fundraisers:

Help us tell the ECCOU story and organize fundraising campaigns among your friends, communities, workplaces, and networks.

To organizations and foundations:

We welcome partnerships that can provide financial support, educational materials, food, healthcare assistance, skills training, and long-term program support.

To friends and well-wishers:

You do not need to make a large donation to make a difference. Give what you can and help us reach one more child.

8. OUR COMMITMENT TO ACCOUNTABILITY

ECCOU is committed to using resources responsibly and transparently.

We maintain records of support received and the activities implemented, and we remain committed to providing donors and partners with updates on the impact of their contributions.

We believe that trust is essential to sustainable partnerships.

9. LOOKING AHEAD

The journey is far from over.

The support we have received from local churches, individuals, friends, and well-wishers has shown us that the community believes in the future of its children.

However, the number of children needing support continues to exceed the resources available.

Our goal is not simply to provide temporary assistance. We want to help vulnerable children stay in school, complete their education, remain healthy, develop skills, and become productive members of their communities.

With stronger partnerships and increased funding, ECCOU can reach many more children and youth.

10. OUR APPEAL

We invite you to stand with ECCOU.

DONATE. FUNDRAISE. PARTNER. SHARE. PRAY.

Whether you are an individual, church, fundraiser, foundation, company, community group, or friend of ECCOU, you can be part of changing a child's story.

Together, we can turn:

School dropout into school completion.

Hunger into hope.

Vulnerability into opportunity.

Poverty into possibility.

Help us give vulnerable children a future.
