Blossoms of Guyana plans to donate 1,500 books to provide literacy education for 1,100 primary school students who come from the poorest areas in Guyana. Blossoms will also provide three laptop computers to help support teachers in their work along with teaching supplies and learning aids to help support the education of students. Blossoms donations will also include school supplies for students and teaching supplies for teachers along with a printer for the school.
Kuru Kururu is located in one of the more rural parts of Guyana. Ninety percent of the students come from low income families living in farming villages. Kuru Kururu Primary School has been under- performing due to poor reading ability. Sixty-five percent of students read below grade level. This is due mainly to their nutrition, low memory retention and lack of parental guidance.
Our objective at Blossoms of Guyana is to further increase our investment into the education of low-income students living in Guyana. Our goal is to move towards developing a holistic approach to addressing the needs of the schools with which we work. Our aim is to address the most pervasive needs facing Guyanese schools, teachers and students to help improve educational outcomes.
This project will help to eradicate illiteracy for 1,100 students living in Guyana allowing them to improve their educational and economic opportunities. We will address the low functional literacy plaguing schools by providing reading books for libraries and for classrooms. We will address inadequate access to technology by providing computers, laptops, printers, projectors and other media equipment.
