Nusrat joined AmanTech as a stitching instructor two and a half years ago. Prior to Aman she was employed at a leather garments factory but left that job in pursuit of something more fulfilling.
The stitching program is a part of Aman Tech’s vocational training programs, designed for young girls from underprivileged backgrounds. These girls come from very conservative backgrounds, but due to Aman’s credible reputation, their parents allow their daughters to come and study here.
“Because of Aman, I have the chance to give these girls the opportunity to transform their lives. Aman is empowering women, which empowers me and gives me peace”, Nusrat says.
The program started in 2015 as the first female driven course at AmanTech. It pertains to home textile stitching, during which students are taught stitching of items like bed sheets, pillow covers, curtain and duvet/quilt covers along with the theory of stitching, safety and basic mathematical calculations.
Nusrat believes that such programs should continue, as it is very important for women to go out of their homes, learn skills and be empowered.
It is through the kindness of donors such as yourself that 239 girls have graduated as stitching machinists from AmanTech. Through vocational and soft skills training, Aman Foundation hopes to build a sustainable future for the youth of Karachi thereby significantly improving their quality and standard of living.
