Project Report | Jan 25, 2019
Every Cloud has a Silver Lining

By Mehwish Iqbal | Project Leader

“The field of refrigeration & air-conditioning (RAC) has always intrigued me. After matriculation, I was unable to study further due to my family’s financial circumstances. However, I continued to pursue my passion in RAC through short courses and diplomas.” says Sheik Farhan Umar, a resident of Landhi, Karachi and an Aman Tech alumna.

When Farhan found out about the RAC course at Aman Tech, he did not allow a moment’s delay to get himself enrolled. He applied immediately and got shortlisted for the first batch of Aman Tech in 2011.

“A lot of things were unique at Aman Tech. Apart from theoretical knowledge, there was a special focus on practical learning, a practice that gave me hands-on experience in my field. Moreover, the teachers and staff promoted a learning environment and offered support and mentoring, which motivated me to work harder and excel.”

As a result of his hard work, passion and support from the institute, Farhan graduated with distinction. During that time, employers from Dubai were interviewing Aman Tech graduates for technical jobs. Farhan cleared the hiring process successfully and soon after began his career as an assistant technician for Green Leaf Air-conditioning in Dubai.

After one year, Farhan was hired by Engro Chemicals as a contract supervisor in Pakistan. “At Engro, we were handling dangerous chemicals. That is when I realized the real importance of safety training, which was part of Aman Tech’c curriculum.”

“I consider myself very lucky to have had the opportunity to study at Aman Tech. After my graduation, a new life started for me. Earlier, I was only confident about my knowledge of RAC but after my training, I became confident in my practical skills as well. In a technical field like mine, theoretical knowledge is not enough, you learn more by practicing.”

Farhan is currently working in Saudia Arabia and supporting his family. He invests his free time in learning about the new trends and technology in the field of RAC. He is also striving towards achieving an engineering degree, which he believes will help him progress in his career as a chief engineer. Farhan places special focus on his children’s education and wants his eldest son to grow up to become an engineer.

Aman Tech’s mission is to transform lives of the youth of Pakistan by providing them skills training that improves their employability and empowers them and their communities. With support of donors such as yourself, we have been able to transform the lives of 13,900+ young men and women with a 65% placement rate. You can help us enlarge this impact through your zakat and donations.
