Over the past few months, our work in Diepsloot has continued around a simple principle: opportunity only matters when people can access it.
Every day, young people come through our doors to use computers, connectivity and digital resources to search for jobs, complete applications, access learning and develop their skills. Small business owners use our Business Hub for practical support, workspace and resources they would otherwise struggle to access. Children continue to participate in learning activities that introduce them to technology, environmental responsibility and the wider world around them.
Behind all of this is something less visible but equally important: keeping the infrastructure available.
Keeping the doors open, the internet connected, the computers working and a team on hand to support people has a real cost. At present, our GlobalGiving project has attracted very little funding, which means that this work continues largely because of support raised elsewhere and our commitment to maintaining this community resource.
We remain convinced, however, that access matters.
For someone without a computer, data or a quiet place to work, access to a connected space can mean the difference between seeing an opportunity and being able to act on it. For a township entrepreneur, access to basic business infrastructure can help turn an idea into income. For a child, exposure to technology, learning and new ideas can begin to change what they imagine for their future.
Our challenge is to keep that opportunity within reach — and to ensure that the infrastructure behind it remains sustainable.
Thank you to everyone who continues to follow our journey and believe in what is possible in Diepsloot.
