A Borehole Becomes Lifeline for a Rural Community

By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader

Dear Donor,

Thanks to your generous support, Development Alert was able to help restore access to clean water for a rural community where a damaged borehole had left hundreds of families struggling to find a safe and reliable water source.

Before the intervention, community members were forced to walk long distances to collect water from alternative sources. During periods of heavy rainfall, some of these sources became contaminated, while during dry periods they could become scarce. Women and children carried much of the burden of water collection, sometimes spending hours away from home and school.

With your support, Development Alert worked with community members to identify the problem, coordinate the borehole repair, and promote responsible management of the restored water source. The repaired borehole is now helping families access water for drinking, cooking, washing, and other essential household activities.

The benefits reach far beyond the water point. Children have more time to attend school and study. Women can dedicate more time to farming and small businesses. Families can improve hygiene and reduce their dependence on potentially unsafe sources.

Community members are also being encouraged to protect the borehole and participate in its maintenance so that the investment continues benefiting future generations.

Thank you for making this transformation possible. Your generosity is helping turn a repaired borehole into a source of health, dignity, opportunity, and hope for an entire community.
