Dear Donor,
Thanks to your generous support, Development Alert has continued standing with vulnerable communities as the region responds to one of the most serious Ebola emergencies in recent years.
The scale of the crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is unprecedented for the country. The outbreak has exceeded 5,000 confirmed cases and 2,378 deaths and has expanded into a sixth province. WHO describes the outbreak as being in a phase of intense transmission. Uganda, in contrast, has recorded 20 confirmed cases and two deaths and has made significant progress in controlling its outbreak.
This contrast reinforces the importance of maintaining strong preparedness even when case numbers decline. Communities near the Uganda–DRC border remain connected through trade, transportation, family networks, and other forms of movement. Development Alert is therefore continuing community awareness, hygiene promotion, risk communication, and preparedness activities.
We are helping residents understand the importance of reporting suspected illness, cooperating with health workers, avoiding misinformation, and protecting themselves and their families through appropriate prevention measures.
For communities facing uncertainty, reliable information and trusted local engagement can make an enormous difference. Your support enables Development Alert to remain present at the grassroots level and help communities respond responsibly.
Thank you for your continued compassion and support. Your generosity is helping protect lives, strengthen community resilience, and ensure that the lessons learned from Uganda's Ebola response continue to benefit vulnerable communities on both sides of the border.
