Warm greetings!
We recently celebrated 20th Foundation Day of our organization, IDEA Foundation. It was possible only because of your continuous support and the trust that you showed in us. Thank you for being a part of this enriching journey. Past two years have been devastating for many of our beneficiaries due to Coronavirus pandemic. Many of them, especially the daily wage workers lost their jobs. One of them were Akash and Vijaya (names have been changed to protect their identity).
Mr. Akash and Vijaya are the parents of Shashi, one of our very active Youth Club members. They tested Covid positive. They are a family of five members. Shashi’s two siblings are also the students of Study Center run by IDEA. Both are very regular and participate in all activities. Akash was severely ill and had to be hospitalized. Vijaya, his wife was in home isolation and under close supervision of a doctor. They could not go to work for many days due to acute pain and weakness. The entire treatment cost them Rs. 43000. They somehow managed to pay this amount through the little savings. But things got worse when Akash lost his job. He worked as a Security Guard. His wife, Vijaya lost her job too. She worked as a domestic help. Being parents of the three children, they found it difficult to cover daily expenses as well as medical expenses including post Covid treatment for both.
They needed some financial help because their saving was not sufficient to meet medical and household expenses. Thus, considering their background and after doing the required verification, we provided financial support of Rs. 10000 to Akash’s family. They expressed their gratitude towards IDEA Foundation and donors like you for providing financial and emotional support. They went through a trauma during that time. It was not only because of the fear of spreading the infection but also because of the increasing charges in the hospital as the time went by. IDEA staff is still in touch with them and provides moral support because of which they never feel alone. IDEA has also been providing educational support to their children for the last 2 years.
Now, they both have recovered from COVID and taking care of themselves along with family. They have also resumed their jobs. We have been conducting several community awareness sessions on Covid appropriate behavior, importance of saving, nutrition. Akash and Vijaya attended all these sessions, and they are aware about the importance of financial management of the family. They are also fully vaccinated now. Thank you for supporting so many families like this in the crucial times. Hope the worst is behind us and the world gets back to normal and healthy life soon.
