This project will build standard classrooms to provide free quality education to orphans and needy children in the rural western Kenya. The Tumaini Miles of Smiles centre exists to serve orphaned and needy children, youth, and families, through a caring, accepting, and safe community where hurts are healed; hope is nurtured, trust in self and others is developed.
Tumaini school started small and constructed small classrooms. With the increased number of needy children and orphans in the community, the classrooms are too small to accommodate the learners. This leads to 4 children sharing a desk and forty learners in one small classroom. The other challenge is the new curriculum which has more activities that need extra classrooms which are not available. This forces the children to learn from outside and they miss out during rainy season.
Tumaini provides quality education to the orphaned and needy children in the community. More than six hundred learners have graduated from this school and pursuing their degrees. If we provide the standard classrooms the learners will have a conducive learning environment with 2 students sharing a desk and we will have more children in the school. This will also protect the school from the danger of closing down for not meeting the standards
Education is power and it gives an opportunity to an individual to become more responsible and fulfilled people in the society. This project will continue to educate more needy and orphaned children giving them an opportunity to rise out of poverty which will bring a lasting change in breaking the poverty cycle.
