Chaya's story of determination- powered by YOU!

By Tabita Fernandes | Project Leader

At just 13 years old, *Chaya’s world changed.

In her small village, life revolved around daily-wage labour and leaf stitching. For Chaya’s family, survival always came first and education seemed like a distant dream.

After finishing primary school, Chaya had to drop out for a year, spending her days collecting firewood and helping her parents in the fields just to keep the household running.

But deep down, she never stopped wanting to learn.

During a community visit, a CRY team learned about her situation. They met with her parents, explained the long-term value of education, and helped Chaya re-enrol in school.

With regular academic support and encouragement from her teachers, Chaya didn’t just return to class, she rediscovered her ambition.

Her commitment soon grew beyond her own education. She began volunteering with a CRY-supported project, where she built new skills, confidence, and a growing sense of leadership.

And then came the turning point.

Chaya secured her first real job with India Post, a milestone that marked not just her success, but the power of what education can do.

Today, she stands as a proud example for other children in her community—proof that when a child is given the chance to learn, they can rewrite their own future.

This incredible transformation was made possible because of you. Your commitment ensures that children like Chaya don’t have to choose between work and school.

But there are still many more children across rural communities in India waiting for their opportunity to learn, grow, and dream.

Your continued support can help make that happen. Together, we can ensure that every child like Chaya gets the chance to trade labour for learning and shape a brighter tomorrow.

Thank you for standing with us, and with them.
