I'm writing to share with you some joy in Africa! Our work in Africa is growing, we're onboarding six new Diaper Drops in Uganda! One of our new Diaper Drops is with Ekisa Ministries. Ekisa Ministries works to improve the quality of life for children living with special needs in Uganda. We're providing them with cloth diapers for individuals of all ages, thanks to you.

Innocent's Story, as told by Ekisa Ministries

Without Immaculate, Innocent’s life would most likely look a lot different today. His grandmother took him in after his parent’s weren’t able to provide the care he needed to thrive. He had suffered from malnutrition and neglect, and was far from the healthy, happy boy we’ve come to know and love. Immaculate is incredibly proud of how much Innocent has developed and grown since being brought into her home.

When we asked her about raising him she immediately pulled out a picture from her purse to show us what he used to look like. The transformation in Innocent is staggering. She shared,

It makes me very, very happy when I look at where he is now compared to when I first started caring for him. Look at him. He’s always so happy now; he doesn’t cry unless there is something wrong with him. I don’t want Innocent to ever go away from my family.”

Thanks to Immaculate, Innocent is growing up in a safe, nurturing and loving home. This has changed everything.

Today, Innocent is able to sit independently and he is able to hold and grip basic things like cups and toys. He is working hard in physiotherapy with the goal of eventually being able to walk and he is also attending school for the first time at Ekisa Academy. Immaculate shared,

He’s always very excited whenever I dress him in his uniform to go to school. He even recognizes the school bus that comes to pick him up. If you take Innocent somewhere and he happens to miss school, he can cry the whole day!”

Looking ahead, Immaculate sees Innocent growing into a responsible young man who is able to interact well with everyone around him. She believes with all her heart that he will do something purposeful with his life.

Today we celebrate grandmothers like Immaculate who have selflessly stepped in to raise children whose parents are unable to care for them. They deserve so much praise and celebration for doing so. At an age when they were ready to retire, they had the courage to start all over again.

Junior & Tarek
Junior & Tarek

It is with joy that I introduce you to Junior, a sweet loving two year old. Junior lives in Mwanza, Tanzania, with his grandmother Suli. Junior was born with Hirschsprungs' Disease, which causes him challenges with bowel management.

We were introduced to Junior through our Diaper Drop partner Resurge Children East Africa. Resurge is an amazing, inspiring organization. They provide access to surgical and medical care to children living in poverty, who are challenged with colorectal conditions, at no cost to families. They've been providing medical care to Junior, and also training his grandmother Suli how to best care for his unique medical needs.

At a recent Surgical Camp, diaper kits (made possible by you!) were distributed to Junior and other children. Joy radiated in Suli's face when she received the diapers. Diapers are an expensive item, and often considerd a "luxury" despite the fact that they are indeed a basic need, especially when living with a colorectal condition. Living in poverty has forced Suli to choose between food and diapers. Thanks you to, Suli no longer faces this decision. She is now able to afford more food, including high protein foods to help Junior grow big and strong!

That's not all. Junior is now enjoying his childhood more. He's now able to participate in playdates with other children, while staying clean and dry. Suli is so happy and optimistic for Junior and his future. She is so thankful to you for the gift you have given her and Junior.

Thank you for the amazing gift of diapers.

Siagi
Siagi

We don't know his age or home, but one name: "Siagi". This precious little boy was abandoned by his parents and was rescued to Mama Ngnina Children's home in Kisumu. Mama Ngina provides care and outreach services for approximately 150 children, ranging in age from zero to young teens. These children all have their own stories, and sadly abandonment due to extreme poverty is a common thread.

Space in the home is limited and resources are scarce. The children depend largely on the generosity of private donors, Mama Ngnina's small staff, and volunteer caregivers to meet children's basic needs. Thanks to you, Siagi and the other youngsters at Mama Ngnina's now have cloth diapers. Without your generosity, they wouldn't have any diapers at all.

Baby Siagi's future is unknown. He's still in a probationary period waiting to see if either of his parents will come back. If not, he'll be given up for adoption. By having diapers, he now stays clean, dry, and comfortable while waiting for his forever family.

The social workers want you to know how thankful they are to you for reducing their burden. It is truly an amazing thing you are doing, and I can not thank you enough.

Asante Sana,

~ Stephanie
