From picking up rags to carrying school bag
Anita had never been to school – she accompanied her parents to pick up rags and other waste material. Few years ago they came to Kashmir and her father started working in a construction site. They lived in a slum with other families. When CRY started a child activity centre in the area, Anita and the other children in the slum were very happy. The team did home visits and spoke to the families and convinced them to send their children to the centre. The team met Anita’s parents also on one such home visit and convinced them on the importance of education and to send their child to the centre.
The project team has now enrolled her in the primary school. Anita is being provided extra support to cope up with her curriculum. Anita is very regular at school and she also comes to Child Activity Centre and gets involved in the extra-curricular activities.
Anita dreams of becoming an officer and to improve the financial situation of her family, she also wants to help other children like her in the slum.
