Normally at this time of year we would be holding 3 community Christmas lunches across the borough where everyone gets together, to dance, eat and greet each other. But this year everyone has to be apart. It will be lonely this Christmas for elderly, vulnerable and disabled people who can't get out and especially for families who have no income. We want to ensure everyone eats and sees someone else on Christmas day, so we're bringing the cheer right to their doors.
Christmas is a time when everyone should enjoy a meal with their loved ones, however, not everyone is afforded this. The recent and ongoing pandemic has exacerbated existing inequalities meaning that more people than ever are struggling to put food on the table and many members of the community are feeling increasingly isolated and many report feeling lonely. And in a year like this there are people still being forced to flee their homes away from their families and loved ones - to Tooting
Our canteen will provide a hot, nutritious meal at Christmas to people in need in Wandsworth and nearby. These are elderly, disabled, socially isolated and those seeking asylum from persecution. Powered by local people we will bring a hot christmas lunch and gift alongside a cheery hello on Christmas day. It will mean that this Christmas will be time of celebration give people the opportunity to have a christmas meal, see a friendly face and enjoy Christmas.
This project will give people a chance to eat well this Christmas. It will also reduce loneliness at a time of year when so many people feel it acutely. Families will be able to spend the day without the worry of being able to give children a Christmas free from the burden of hunger. Asylum seekers will have a joyous introduction to the great traditions of a British Christmas. We know it doesn't stop here, so please make a regular donation to help us help others all year round
