As part of our mission of Enriching Communities, we have turned a double decker into a mobile greengrocers and community space. This unique bus brings low cost, fresh produce to areas where residents experience food insecurity, and have limited access to healthy, affordable food. Operating in South London, the Food Bus offers a more affordable way to shop on the bottom deck, and a Cafe, with seating and Wi-Fi, on the top. Neighbourhoods have been forgotten by food-stores. Many South London residents are prevented from accessing low cost and high quality produce. The Cost Of Living crisis has only exacerbated these problems, and in the UK, over fourteen million people now experience food insecurity. We believe that everyone deserves the right to a healthy life, with choice and dignity. With your help, we can provide access to groceries and healthier choices to those who have been denied them
The Food Bus is a unique double decker that provides access to healthy and low cost food to the areas of South London that need it most. The Food Bus stops in Roehampton, Kennington, Stockwell, and Tooting. By driving to areas with less access to healthy and affordable options, the bus promotes accessibility, dignity, and freedom of choice, whilst trying to alleviate food-insecurity. All items sold on the Food Bus are at least twenty-five percent cheaper than in a supermarket.
Since its first journey, the Food Bus has served hundreds of people. The Food Bus has established fantastic relationships across the city, and has been recognised for its innovation numerous times. We are also working hard on plans to develop our services, discussing new stops within the local community, exploring alternative transport methods to ensure access to healthy food grows, and piloting new projects with the aim to make South London healthier.
