The Helping Hands Foundation provides support for marginalized and disadvantaged youth, especially boys and girls with extreme needs. Helping Hands works in the department of La Paz, one of the two most populated regions in Bolivia. This project enables our students to attend university or a technical institute and therefore have the opportunity to fulfill their potential in life.
In Bolivia, six of every ten youths work in the informal sector in low-skilled, often unsafe, jobs due to a lack of professional or technical skills. Although Bolivia has a Public Higher Education System, few young people are able to access the public universities as the spaces are limited and poor families often find it impossible to afford the transportation costs, books and school materials needed by the student.
With your support, we can provide scholarships that are customized for each of our students according to their needs, be that university fees, school materials, uniforms, transportation, rent or others. Our Foundation will also be able to provide the counseling, academic and socio-emotional support for these young students that come from difficult backgrounds. This additional support helps to reduce the number of dropouts and rather promotes permanence in their programs.
This project will give young Bolivians a better chance to escape from poverty, improve their quality of life and that of their future families, and go on to make a positive contribution to society. Having a university degree or a vocational education enables our students to get jobs with better salaries so they can help themselves and their families escape the vicious cycle of poverty.
