We'll expand and equip bomb shelters in 2 educational institutions in frontline Mykolaiv, so 600+ children - including those with special needs and children on waiting lists - can learn in safety. These children will have access to education, space to grow, and opportunities to play and build friendships. The upgraded shelters will also protect staff members. This will help educational institutions welcome more children and enable parents to work knowing their little ones are safe and cared for.
In frontline Mykolaiv, educational institutions can only operate if they have a bomb shelter - the only way to keep children safe during air raids. Since 2024, we have equipped 3 shelters, but many still need support. Two institutions serving over 600 children - including those with special needs and children on waiting lists - cannot accommodate all students in existing shelters. Without expanding these shelters, children risk being turned away, losing both safety and access to education.
We will transform unused basement spaces in these educational institutions into safe, fully equipped bomb shelters that meet all government safety standards. By expanding the shelters, every child - including those with special educational needs - will have a secure place to stay during air raids. This will also allow more children currently on waiting lists to enroll, giving parents the opportunity to work while their children learn in safety.
By expanding and upgrading these shelters, we're creating safe learning spaces that will serve the community for many years. Even after the war, these shelters will remain a vital part of the educational institutions' infrastructure, ensuring they are always prepared to protect children. This investment will help keep education accessible, support working parents, and strengthen the resilience of the entire community.
