Roshini, a 22-year-old from Mumbai, grew up in childcare institutions and once she turned 18, she found she had no safe space to call home.
She was referred to our hostel for women experiencing homelessness called Urja. At Urja she found not only shelter but the safe space she always wanted. After an initial medical check-up, it revealed that Roshini was suffering from Tuberculosis and severe malnourishment. Urja supported her with holistic healthcare, nutrition supplements and regular therapy sessions which supported her to regain her health and find resources to care for her mental health. From this treatment plan, she discovered a drive for healthcare, nursing and midwifery.
With Urja's support, Roshini enrolled in a nursing course. She worked hard and excelled in her studies, which led to a part-time job opportunity. This job not only provides her with a steady income but also offers the potential for career growth. As she continues her nursing training and works towards financial independence, Roshini's journey is one of resilience and determination.
More women like Roshini need your support, there are thousands of women in Mumbai who experience homelessness and Urja is an incredible centre of hope, providing the opportunity to countless women who otherwise would be left behind and excluded. Though it is a small hostel, it has a huge effect on many lives.
