Project progress report

By Anna Maiba | Project Leader

Summary of Progress We are pleased to share progress on our project aimed at establishing a Gender-Based Violence Rapid Response Center (GBVRRC) in Rusape, Makoni District, Manicaland Province. This initiative seeks to provide life-saving support services to survivors of gender-based violence, particularly Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW). Since the launch of the project on GlobalGiving, we have successfully raised $26 from 3 generous donors. While this is an early stage, it marks an important step toward mobilizing resources and building awareness around the urgent need to support GBV survivors in our community. Activities Implemented During this reporting period, we focused on foundational activities to prepare for project implementation: Conducted community consultations to better understand the needs of GBV survivors in Rusape and surrounding areas Engaged local stakeholders, including community leaders and social service providers, to build partnerships Initiated project planning and site identification for the GBV Rapid Response Center Strengthened digital outreach and fundraising efforts through GlobalGiving and other platforms Challenges Encountered Despite our commitment, the project has faced several challenges: Limited funding, which has slowed down the construction and setup of the center Low awareness levels about the project among potential donors and partners Increasing cases of GBV in the community, highlighting the urgent need for accelerated intervention Impact and Beneficiaries Although the center is still in the early stages of development, the project has already begun to create impact by: Raising awareness on gender-based violence issues within the community Building a support network that will directly benefit over 5,000 vulnerable girls and young women Laying the groundwork for future services including counseling, rehabilitation, and STEM skills training.
