This project will build a Gender-Based Violence Rapid Response Center (GBVRRC) in Rusape, Makoni District Manicaland province of Zimbabwe. The Center will provide counseling services to Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) who are victims of rape, child marriages, sex trafficking, and forced marriages. The facility is also going to offer tailored rehabilitation sessions for these victims. Further, the Center is going to train young women in soft skills in STEM i.e. coding and G-suite.
Makoni District like many other districts in Zimbabwe, grapples with entrenched gender disparities that impede social and economic progress. Statistics show that one in every five girls or young women has experienced Gender-Based Violence since her childhood in one way or another. Recognizing this imperative, the Sustainable World Zimbabwe Trust undertakes this groundbreaking initiative as a commitment to reshaping the narrative and dismantling barriers that hinder the full potential of women.
Our primary objective is to empower victims of Gender-Based Violence through rehabilitation, counseling, skills development, and entrepreneurship training. By nurturing a culture of soft skills development and entrepreneurship, we aim to create a ripple effect that elevates not only victims but also contributes to the economic vibrancy of Makoni District. Our initiative is committed to combating this menace through comprehensive skills development and tangible support services for survivors.
The Sustainable World Zimbabwe Trust envisions a community where gender equality is not merely an aspiration but an integral part of the community's fabric. Through this initiative, we aim to plant the seeds for lasting change, where women and girls are not only empowered but are active contributors to the social, economic, and cultural prosperity of Makoni. Through targeted interventions, we aim to create a transformative impact that extends beyond immediate improvements in the community.
