This project will help 400 vulnerable girls aged 12-19 in Mombasa return to and stay in school by providing school fees, uniforms, learning materials, dignity kits, mentorship and psychosocial support. It will address barriers such as poverty, teenage pregnancy and gender-based violence, while engaging families and communities to create safe and supportive environments where girls can continue their education and build brighter futures.
In underserved communities in Mombasa, vulnerable girls aged 12-19 face barriers that force them out of school. Poverty limits access to school fees, uniforms, learning materials and menstrual supplies, while teenage pregnancy, gender-based violence, early marriage and stigma increase dropout risks. Without support, these girls face greater risks of exploitation and long-term poverty. This project will support 400 vulnerable girls to overcome these barriers and return to school.
KESCO will help 400 vulnerable girls return to and remain in school by providing school fees, uniforms, learning materials and dignity kits. Girls will receive mentorship, life-skills training, psychosocial support and GBV referral services. The project will engage parents, schools and community leaders to address early marriage and stigma, while improving selected school facilities to create safer, girl-friendly learning environments.
The project will help 400 vulnerable girls return to education, with at least 360 girls (90%) expected to remain in school. Continued education will reduce vulnerability to early marriage, gender-based violence, exploitation, and long-term poverty while improving future livelihood opportunities. Safer schools, mentorship, and community support will enable girls to complete their education and build independent, resilient futures.
