Improving educational justice in Iraq

At Bothoor Alkhaer, we recognize that educational disparity is a critical problem in the country, particularly among those born into highly vulnerable social backgrounds who lack access to comprehensive education. This situation manifests itself in poor academic results and high school dropout rates. For many young people, educational disparity is a barrier to accessing opportunities that enable them to live a dignified life. It is also at the root of many other social problems affecting all of Iraq: crime, drug trafficking, corruption, weak labor force competitiveness, persistent cycles of poverty, weak social mobility, and socioeconomic inequality, among others. Through our leadership program, Bothoor Alkhaer professionals collaborate with marginalized communities in schools and learning centers, from early childhood education to secondary education. This builds a broad, diverse, and inclusive movement of committed leaders that promotes leadership through education in Iraq, enabling teachers, as well as children and youth, to develop and reach their full potential.

We believe that education is the most powerful tool for improving opportunities throughout life, and with the support of our allies, we can reach more communities to ensure they have access to better education.

During the 2024-2025 academic year, we reached over 600 girls and boys, and over 300 primary caregivers and early childhood education workers, designing and implementing meaningful learning experiences and enhancing their cognitive skills. We also reached over 10,000 students in primary, middle, and secondary school, strengthening their social and emotional skills (self-control, self-efficacy, growth mindset, and mindfulness). Social), and we have enhanced at least one 21st-century skill (creativity, innovation, critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration).

200 lessons every month – delivered by Masarat teachers through the school education track, ensuring that ninth-grade and twelfth-grade students—both in the scientific and literary branches—receive a structured, systematic education designed to empower them in achieving the best academic results.
