This project will start up small poultry farm businesses for 300 victimized internally displaced women and families affected by the ongoing Anglophone crisis/war in North West and South West regions of Cameroon. The project will distribute 4500 chicks of three weeks old to 300 women after intensive training on poultry farming.
The Anglophone crisis in Cameroon, which began in late 2016, has led to significant internal displacement of over 1,300,000 people including around 650,000 women and children according to the UN News. Although numerous humanitarian organizations, including the United Nations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), are working to provide assistance to IDPs, these IDPs especially women are at risk of starvation, Gender based violence, Prostitution. This project will affect more than 2,000 IDPs.
The project will train 300 women in poultry farming and provide them with 4500 chicks. This poultry farming will serve as an income generating activity to these women who will be able rise against starvation, prostitution, and serve as a source of protein for them. During training, these women will also be taught to share their new knowledge with other Internally displaced persons.
This initiative will enhance food security by ensuring a stable source of protein, reduce poverty through income generation, take out some women from the streets who are prostitutes, empower women economically and socially. Additionally, it will foster community resilience and contribute to the local economy's revival amidst the Anglophone crisis in Cameroon.
