Introduction

Africa Intercultural Development Support Ltd (AIDEST) was incorporated in 2019 to enable it also serve people and communities right from grassroots to a national level. Its mission and vision remained the same.

About the project

AIDEST started a coffee farm project in greater Masaka, South of Kampala, some 100km away Kampala city of Uganda, where we found a litle more bigger land for to fit the project development. And to build capacity and encourage young people - both boys and girls participate in for sustainable growth and self-reliance. Currently though, the project still facing bigger challenges including;-

1) access to seedlings,

2) human resource pay allowances (casual workers),

3) limited farm tools,

4) majorly of all - lack of water to feed the plants especially the young coffee that need it most at this stage.

Situation

Drought in Masaka, Uganda has significantly impacted coffee and banana, as well as farmers are well, due to the prolonged dry spell that has wilted crops, premature berry drop and slunted development, threatening livelioods of smallholder farmers, under which AIDEST coffee project also follows. Our project is located in Rakai district, where have reports of srinking harvests, with some stating their entire plantations being affected. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DPR7X7u2c/ You can also find some of our other activities on: https://www.facebook.com/youth-production-and-entrepreneurship-program

The project started growing coffee now making two years - realise, it is still young coffee plantation - and vulnerable, with many trees drying out!

Way forward

Second rainy season of the year have begun, the project team has indicated a sign for the need of irrigation, a solution aimed to improve our coffee project's resilience and sustainable production - this would help also in the forecasted dry spells ahead or post-season.

To buy and replant new seedlings, replacing the dried coffee plants.

For your information, find attached a picture on coffee situation in our garden and for our neighbours.

We will be happy, if you spread this message to your family, friends and networks for information on the situation.

Your cooperation and collaboration highly appreciated.

THANKS.
