Life in Gombe for women with no employment is very hard. Desert encroachment has made agriculture unprofitable. Lack of ponds makes dry season farming impossible. With high unemployment among the men, women have to find means of family upkeep. Our skills training is designed to give women and girls the opportunity to start a business. We train them; provide them with material as grants to start-up their crochet business; and l help them to market their products.
Unemployed and low-income women and girls with little access to income generating opportunities because of lack of skills, limited marketing opportunities and with little or no money to start an enterprise.
The project will provide training and a starter kit for selected women and girls. The project will display their products online and also in a shop thus we will manage the sales process for them. They can also order working materials through the project where it is difficult to get them in their communities.
Increased income will enable the women improve their lives and that of their dependents through better nutrition, access to education and being able to afford health care.
