Crossing Paths- Concert Series (Larkana concert)

Summary

Over the past three months, Sistema Cyprus has continued to deliver free, inclusive music education to children and young people in Nicosia and Larnaca. Through orchestral training and ensemble participation, children from diverse backgrounds—including migrants and refugees—have developed musical, social, and personal skills.

This period was marked by major public performances, programme continuity, and expanded international volunteering opportunities, all contributing to stronger community engagement and increased impact.

What Happened This Period

Concerts and Public Performances

A key highlight of this reporting period has been our “Crossing Paths” concert series, showcasing the growth, dedication, and progress of our young musicians.

  • A sold out concert took place in Larnaca in March 2026
    • Students from all levels (beginner to intermediate) participated
    • Children performed in front of live audiences, many for the first time
  • The series continues with an upcoming performance in Nicosia:
    • Satiriko Theatre
    • Sunday 5 April 2026, 6pm

This upcoming concert will feature our Beginner and Junior Orchestras, who have been working consistently over the past months to develop their skills and confidence.

These performances are more than concerts—they are milestones. Each rehearsal, each note, and each child represents progress, commitment, and transformation.

Through this series, children:

  • Experience performing on professional stages
  • Build confidence and resilience
  • Share their journey with families and the wider public

We warmly invite our community and supporters to be part of this next step—celebrating not only musical achievement, but the power of collective effort and inclusion.

Strengthening Our Programme Through Volunteering

Sistema Cyprus expanded its international engagement through the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) programme.

  • New volunteering opportunities were announced for the 2026–2027 cycle
  • Volunteers support teaching, coordination, and community activities

This initiative:

  • Enhances programme quality
  • Promotes intercultural exchange
  • Increases our organisational capacity

Ongoing Music Education Activities

Throughout the reporting period, we maintained consistent weekly activities, including:

  • Orchestra rehearsals and sectionals
  • Instrument-specific group lessons
  • Ensemble collaboration and peer learning

Children continued to benefit from:

  • A structured and safe learning environment
  • Opportunities for creative expression
  • Development of discipline and teamwork

Impact

During this period, Sistema Cyprus achieved:

  • Increased confidence and self-expression among participants
  • Noticeable musical progress across all levels
  • Stronger social integration among children from diverse backgrounds
  • Greater community engagement through public performances

Many children who began the programme with little or no musical experience are now performing as part of an orchestra—an important milestone in both their personal and artistic development.

Challenges

Despite our progress, we continue to face several challenges:

  • Growing demand from children wishing to join the programme
  • Limited financial and human resources
  • Ongoing need for instruments and teaching capacity

Addressing these challenges is essential to sustaining and expanding our impact.

What’s Next

In the coming months, we aim to:

  • Deliver additional performances in Nicosia and Larnaka
  • Welcome and integrate new ESC volunteers
  • Expand access to more children in underserved communities
  • Strengthen partnerships and outreach efforts

Thank You

We are deeply grateful to our GlobalGiving donors for their continued support.

Your contributions enable us to:

  • Provide free music education to children in need
  • Create safe, inclusive spaces for growth and expression
  • Empower young people through music and community

Thank you for being part of this journey.
