Many of the children who come to our Epilepsy clinic also have other challenges. Many are malnourished, and others, have Cerebral Palsy or other physical disabilities or behaviour challenges. All of these children do better when their epilepsy treatment is coupled with therapy, preschool, special education and nutrition support. Children of Blessing Trust offers all of these services at our main centre and at all 11 Outreach Clinics (located within a 40 kilometer radius of our main centre)..
Shailene and Hamida attend our Epilepsy Clinics. Shailene receives her medication at the Outreach Clinic every month. Since Hamida is new to the Epilepsy Clinic she was seen first at our main Epilepsy Clinic. Once she is stable on her medication she will also be able to receive her medication at the Outreach Clinic.
They both live in a community that is 10 kilometres away from our main centre. They are able to attend one of our Outreach Clinics in that community very close to their homes. Here they can receive rehabilitation services, preschool and special education, nutrition rehabilitation and treatment for Epilepsy.
Shailene is seen in the photos below receiving physiotherapy from our physiotherapist and epilepsy medication from our nurse.
Hamida receives physiotherapy, preschool education and nutrition rehabilitation services at the Outreach Clinic. Last year she was screened for malnutrition and was found to be severely malnourished. Since then she has been receiving maize soya porridge every 2 weeks and Chiponde, the ready to eat food provided to all moderately to severely malnourished children attending our programs, every week. She gained weight quickly and soon after the photos below were taken she was able to stop needing the Chiponde.
Hamida is seen in the photos below at the main Epilespy Clinic during her consultation with our Clinical Officer to see what Epilepsy medication will work best for her, then when she is being screened for malnutrition and finally receiving her Chiponde.
