Having access to Epilepsy Medications make such a f=difference in the lives of the children.
At one of our Epilepsy Clinics a mom arrived with her 15 year old son. They had travelled 120 kilometres to reach the clinic. I asked them how they had heard of us. They told me an amazing story. 2 men had come to their farm to buy maize. While they were negotiating to buy the maize the biy fell to the ground and had a grand mal seizure. The men asked if this happened often. Mom said everyday! They told her about our clinic near where they sold their maize. They drew her a map and gave directions to find our centre. They even were able to tell her when the next clinic was to take place. She came right away. Her son had stopped going to school because of the seizures. We were able to assess him and provide him with epilepsy medications. He is now seizure free and back at school.
Because of your generosity this story is not an isolated one. Moany children are able to come to our Epilepsy clinics and receive the help they need. For some it is a dramatic change like it was for this young man. For others it is the start of the rehabilitation process together with physiotherapy. For all it can be the start of something new.
With the funds that have been donated we were able to run 4 Epilepsy Clinics at our main centre in January and February. We saw 158 children at these clinics. 33 additonal children were seen as outpatients through our clinic which runds daily at the man centre. 38 other children were seen in our 11 Outreach Clinics held monthly in rural and peri-urban centres within 40 kilometres of our main centre.
