The Turning Point's Secondary School Support Programme empowers 120 students annually by enabling them to continue their education beyond primary school. By alleviating financial barriers, we prepare them for higher learning and professional training, equipping them with the tools they need for a brighter future.
In Kibera, the largest informal settlement in Kenya, less than half of primary school graduates advance to secondary school. The primary barrier is the inability to afford school fees, as most families in Kibera struggle with little to no income. Without access to secondary education, many young people resort to undignified work and low-paying casual jobs, perpetuating the cycle of poverty within their communities.
We partner with families to share the cost of secondary education, ensuring every child has the opportunity to stay in school. With our financial support, families select an affordable school, making education more accessible. Additionally, students participate in holiday programmes designed to build confidence, leadership skills, and career awareness. These programmes help students explore future opportunities and set clear goals to achieve their full God-given potential.
By gaining access to education and essential workforce skills, students will secure better-paying, stable jobs in the future. This will allow them to break free from poverty and create better opportunities for their own families, fostering lasting change in their communities.
