Greeting From CHILD
Thank you once again for your generous donations towards CHILD in our fight against poverty and hunger amongst the people of Northern Uganda.
CHILD will work with 200 women farmers this coming season by providing them with good high-quality seeds ( maize and soya beans), fertilizers ( NPK and AS Basal), and agricultural extension services by our partners HELP Uganda.
Women farmers are also being trained in modern farming techniques by our partners FICCA Seeds. This training will help them improve their yields and also equip them to handle post-harvest challenges to minimize potential losses attributed to poor storage.
With generous help from the GlobalGiving community, we hope to have a wonderful season.
Kind Regards
Jimmy

Harvest time

Greetings from CHILD
Great news! We are partnering with a fabulous organization called peak partner to train our 135 women farmers in post-harvest handling - an incredible program that empowers small-holder farmers to harvest and store their grain effectively, protecting them from mold and pests. This simple training and intervention increase yield by 30% enabling families living in poverty to earn an income through selling excess grain and enjoy food security even during difficult times.
we have also encouraged our women farmers to use the best storage methods to avoid post-harvest losses, these include the storage silos and hermetic bags
Our team also sees that gender-based violence is closely linked to agriculture in that female small-holder farmers often do all the work of planting, harvesting, storing, and selling grain. Yet, their husbands control the proceeds and may even become violent if the women challenge this. Therefore, training on addressing gender-based violence will be provided for the CHILD field officers to ensure our work is holistic and truly supports beneficiaries without causing unintentional harm.
we are looking forward to the second season of planting which has already started and this time around we are working with 200 women farmers.

Greetings from CHILD
Thank you once again for your generous donations towards helping women farmers with good quality seeds. Tremendous progress has been made in the past few months with the 135 farmers that we started with.
It has been an exciting three months in northern Uganda even though the contributions from our generous donors have been minor and slow, our women farmers are still working as hard as ever to make things happen.
In February and March, we conducted training in organic pest and disease management, and soil and water management, including composting and seed savings with all the 135 women farmers involved in the first planting season.
we are looking forward to the upcoming harvest season, and hope for better yields.
