Dear Friend,
As the year draws to a close, we would like to thank you for your help in 2013 and to let you know what the Guatemalan Child Return and Reintegration Project has been able to accomplish with your help.
In 2013, 22 children returned home through the project. Each child receives a personalized service plan and follow up, including home visits. Fifteen children have received psychosocial services, which have proven to be a critical element in helping them to process their experiences and make the adjustment to being back at home.
Additional services which children have utilized include orientation on how to re-enroll in school or enroll in technical training courses; assistance identifying scholarships; help with school supplies and financial assistance for school enrollment fees.
Many of the children have joined local youth groups, helping them reconnect with their peers and communities, and to develop new friendships and networks.
For each Guatemalan child that you have helped return home safely and begin building a future, there is a community that welcomes them. With your support, there is hope that more Guatemalan children can return to better opportunities and can benefit from the culture, language and values their own communities have to offer.
Thank you for joining KIND to implement the only such program for Guatemalan children who migrate alone to the US and are ordered to return home -- with no formal safety net or system in place. With your support, we are creating a model to serve a growing need, and most importantly, helping Guatemalan children develop their skills and envision a productive future -- at home.
With best regards,
Wendy Ramirez
