Project report
The project: Healthy Women, healthy families, continued during March 2022, in Tapi and Perondi villages of Kuçova Municipality.
The main objective of the project is the women's reproductive health, to have good personal health and healthy families.
During March 2022 there were organized three workshops (March 10, March 17 and March 22) that were attended by 59 women of the two villages Tapi and Perondi. The women had the possibility to receive information for cervical cancer, its treatment, the importance of the PAP test, Sexually Transmitted Infections. Health note books published through your financial support were delivered for each woman. In the end of workshop participants filled in an evaluation form. The workshop was conducted in an interactive way and with a simple language adapting the information based on women education. Diakonia Agapes has respected COVID 19 rules and regulations.
Also, health examinations were conducted for the women. A medical team (a gynecologist and laboratory technician) conducted the visit. There 59 women who were examined and there were conducted 45 PAP tests. The health examination was done at the health centers in the villages and the middle health personnel has assisted the team.
The women were very grateful for the opportunity they have to gain information related the issues they face as well as to benefit from the health examination. Being an area with a low economical level does not give the women possibility to take care of their health.
The analyses showed the serious condition, where the degree of purity at level IV, indicates a total neglect of personal health and in particular of reproductive health in patients found at this level of degree of purity. Cases with candidiasis continues to be in a higher number. During the visits, it was observed that in many cases the presence of candidiasis was due to the use of antibiotics (pandemic time) or even the use of traditional folk methods of maintaining hygiene.
The results of PAP test showed that four women had ASCUS, (presence of undiagnosed atypical cells) who were advised for further treatment in specialized centers.
The most prominent success story is the arrival of women for the gynecological visit for the first time to the gynecologist. Out of 59 women, 23 of them contacted the gynecologist for the first time. Based on the conversations during field visits, women shared the fact that they could not share their reproductive health issues in their families. This consequence derives from the culture that exist no to talk about confidential/ sexual health problems or most often share them only with the mother or mother-in-law. Another part of women did not go to the gynecologist because of financial difficulties.
Human stories
One cople lives in Tapi village in Kuçovë city. For several years they tried to have a baby. In the first gynecological visit that the women have conducted the doctor found that she has infections. She has continued to be followed and consulted by the doctor after the visit. In the following year she has been stimulated to get pregnant and now she enjoys a healthy baby.
Diakonia Agapes and the doctor were surprised by the mother who send the photo of the baby girl. She was grateful that the project: Healthy life, healthy families, supported her and contributed to have a better life and extend her family.
The couple B had only a girl. After the birth of the baby the couple tried several times to have another baby but the women had miscarriages. The doctor in Kozare village advised her to give up to her dream to have a big family.
When the team was in her village she decided to get examined. The gynecologist found out through the test that she has a severe infection and mass near uterus. The women has followed all the steps provided by the doctor and after some months she got pregnant. She has a healthy baby.
One of the women in the village stated: I am 62 years old and was the first time in my life that I have conducted a gynecological visit. It is strange but we live in the village and we found difficulty to go to the city for regular check ups. That is why we value a lot the project.
We are grateful to Diakonia Agapes and all the supporter of the project that bring the doctor in the village - says a women 61 years old.
