Lunchboxes for all, thanks to you!

Preschool students with their oatmeal!
Preschool students with their oatmeal!

In September 2021, we launched an important appeal to raise $2,500 to secure the Food Program which supports our preschool students Thanks to the success of this appeal, and your donations, we were able to start it this semester with a new, healthy menu and new ways of providing food to our students.

Since Yspaniola’s preschool opened startedclasses last September, with five classes for students aged 4-7 years, we have been providing 54 children with a homemade healthy and nutritious daily snack. It is thanks to your donations that children go home from our classes every day with a warm lunch!

As you may know, many families in Batey Libertad work informal, unskilled jobs, and are therefore unable to provide nutritious, healthy meals for their children every day. It is well-documented that nutritious food is vital for healthy childhood development, and nothing compares to a warm, home-cooked meal.

Our food program coordinator, Maria, cooks different homemade snacks with all her love. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has not been possible for students to consume their snack in the classrooms, so instead students go home with lunchboxes Yspaniola gave them at the beginning of the school year. The children are proud to come to school everyday with little lunchboxes with their name on and have a daily snack to take home after school!

Although we have not quite reached our goal of $2,500, the amount we raised, thanks to you, has made a huge difference in the lives of our students:

  • 8 pound of oatmeal we warmly cooked for students
  • 54 students came back home daily with a full belly!
  • 500 glasses of milk were served since september
  • 950 bread were fastly eaten by our little mouths

And we plan on serving even more healthy snacks until the end of the school year!

Would you like to help us continue this program until the end of the school year? Please consider making a donation to make sure our little ones get the healthy food they need to keep on learning! Donate today!
