Stella a mother of a special needs child works for Yogurt Con Amor. Early every day she picks up her products and starts on her sales route. “ My job is a nutrition promoter, and I love it. When I sell yogurt each day I feel like I am giving people the opportunity to enjoy their health.” Stella started to work for yogurt four years ago when her special daughter received yogurt for breakfast at the special education center. She fell in love with the product and applied to become a nutrition promoter. She learned all about the benefits of natural yogurt and yogurt cheese. As she started to sell more products people had more questions about the health benefits of yogurt and cheeses. Then Familias Especiales won first place nationally for its natural yogurt cheese and the sales picked up. For the next three years the cheeses were winning first place in the national contest. Then she found out that yogurt and cheese were given to other mothers who were receiving chemotherapy for cancer. This gave her the opportunity to understand that the product was also helpful because it was a food that they could tolerate at the same time with the nutrition they needed. It is a product free from chemicals and preservatives.
Soon Stella’s sales skyrocketed. And she has remained the best sales person for yogurt and her nutritional advice is welcome all across the city. Yogurt has always worked with special mothers giving them first opportunity to fill this position. Stella sells yogurt all day on Sundays at a local church continuing to feel dedicated to the promotion of health and nutrition
Presently the staff is full with three nutritional promoters and three mothers in production with an industrial engineer in charge of production and a supervisor for the promoters. There is a program coordinator plus there are two scholarship workers and three volunteers who help out in different areas of production like labeling.
All are working for the benefit of the mission: Familias Especiales de Santa Julia Billiart is a nonprofit foundation that promotes the integral development of children, adolescent and young people with handicaps and their families, identifying their abilities and needs so they can integrate in different programs that contribute to their social inclusion, affirmation and recognition of their role and their rights.
All sales of their products go to support the Smile kitchen which serves lunch to the children in special education and young people with a disability who work in FE. By supporting this program one also contributes to the nutrition of the children in therapy and special education, so Yogurt Con Amor Is A Win Win Situation.
