Rama and Julie, pictured here aged fourteen and twelve respectively, attend Manga ‘A’ and Manga ‘B’ Primary Schools at Nyorugu. They have benefited from the activities and programmes offered by the project. These schools have 536 children in attendance, and have very primitive latrine pit, and usually have no place to wash hands. In this community the leading cause of death is malaria but the second and the third causes of death are diarrhea and lower respiratory diseases. Simple hand washing has the potential to save lives.
The project team visited these schools when conducting a survey of orphans’ sponsorship; to examine and record their school details. The schools were presented a Veronica Bucket (VB) each, soap and paper towel to improve on good hand washing, which will protect against the spread of many illnesses- from the common cold (which is responsible for 22 million lost school-days each year).
“I can now wash my hands to prevent germs from spreading to keep me and my school-mates from getting sick” “I have been taught good hygiene and how to wash my hands properly. Our teachers are supervising us to wash ours hands properly from the Veronica Bucket (VB) presented to us.” Rama explains.
“I had no risk for symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea, which may be caused by bacteria, any more, since I have started regular hand washing with water and soap” Explains Julie.
The activities and programmes have also benefited 3 (three) orphaned children namely: Samsiatu aged thirteen, Kamal aged five, and Nurudeen aged twelve years, pictured here. They have started receiving their first part of their home based care.
“I lost my loves ones (both parents) since infancy. I come from a broken home having one parent who has difficulty caring for me. I was without proper care and protection and cannot go to school. Now, I have started going to school like my colleagues.” Explains Samsaitu
“Now I have been sent back to school. My passion of education is to learn useful skills like medicine to save lives. Thank you donors through your kindness and generosity, I am now attending school like my colleagues with your support. Continue to support me. God bless you.” Explains Kamal
The beneficiaries are pictured here benefiting from the donations made to the project. God bless you donors. Please continue to support us to make a difference.
