Whilst carrying out their daily activities it has been proven that the need for shelter just not solely lie with women and children. There is a great number of street dwellers within our Metro, people that have unfortunately become victims of circumstance, due to financial constraints, substance abuse, victims of violence or disaster and are now unfortunately homeless. seeing the great improvement the Shelter for women and children has established, we have undertaken to open a fulltime shelter
Due to unemployment, substance abuse, gender abuse and poverty many people have found themselves homeless. Many GBV victims are left without even the clothes on their backs when they are rescued from their situations so they need a safe and tranquil environment to recover. And the destitute homeless members within our Metro, need a safe place to sleep as well as consistent meals and an opportunity to re-enter society as contributing members
Firstly the GBV victims will have a safe environment they can heal in. The destitute will have a place to be safe as well as they will be fed. Once in our shelter, we will offer rehabilitation and counselling as well as various skills programmes that will thus enable them to become independent and self sustaining, contributing members of society. This will then take some of the strain of our Metro residents.
In equipping these victims of circustances with skills and helping them complete rehabilitation processes they can thus become self sufficient member of society. Apart from helping them regain independence, it will also help alleviate the strain on the community as a whole that is caused by vagrancy and hopefully it will largely reduce the rate of vagrancy in our Port Elizabeth Metro
