Thank you so much for your donation to the project taking place in Harbir. We are pleased to report that we have raised £59,023 of the budget offline and these funds have already been transferred to Ethiopia so that materials for the water project can be purchased. Due to high inflation rates, it has been helpful to purchase the needed pipes, cement, timber and other needed materials as soon as possible to keep the costs as low as possible.
In addition, HOPE had a sponsored Run for H2O fundraising event that took place in June, raising over £16,000, and then a Walk for Water took place in July at a retirement community, raising an additional £2,500. We anticipate raising an additional £9,600 from our monthly donors prior to 1st October 2022 and we received a £15,000 grant for this project. Therefore, despite the total shown on GlobalGiving, we are now just in need of an additional £2,164 to complete the funding needed for this comprehensive 18-month project.
The weather in the southern region of Ethiopia where HOPE is working has been challenging and unpredictable. Whilst drought has been a fear for many, one neighbouring community where HOPE is also working had a landslide due to a severe rain storm that hit. This is why HOPE has introduced a climate resistance component to our projects, including this one. 5,00 trees will be planted for erosion control and the community will also build a dam to best protect the lives and livelihoods of the community from any flooding. The final funds raised will over these expenses.
Thank you again for your support. If you would like to make another donation to this project to help us reach our target, we would greatly appreciate it.
We anticipate that clean water will be available for this community by October 2022. We will send a report to you to share this good news.
