Project Report | Aug 11, 2026
Together, we can fill every Hope Box with happiness, hope.

By Rana Bitar | CEO

Thanks to the generosity and kindness of our donors, Space of Peace continued implementing the Hope Box project to bring hope and joy to children whose lives have been deeply affected by poverty, displacement, war, deprivation, and the trauma left behind by the earthquake.

For these children, their needs go far beyond basic assistance. They need people who make them feel safe, listen to their voices, and remind them that their dreams are still worth believing in.

During this reporting period, we reached 74 children, including 39 girls and 35 boys, through psychosocial support and recreational activities in rural Latakia and Idlib.

The children included orphans, children with disabilities, internally displaced children, returnees, and children from families facing severe economic hardship and multiple vulnerability factors.

Our team created safe, child-friendly spaces where children could play, laugh, interact with one another, express their feelings freely, and reconnect with the childhood that years of crisis have taken from them. Through group games, creative activities, and psychosocial support sessions, we worked to strengthen children’s self-confidence, encourage teamwork, improve their social skills, and help them believe that a brighter future is still possible.

Each child received gifts and toys from the Hope Box, bringing joy, comfort, and excitement.

For many of them, it had been a very long time since they had received something new of their own.

Parents shared with us that seeing their children smile again was one of the happiest moments they had experienced in months.

These activities were about much more than recreation.

They also provided an opportunity to engage children in meaningful conversations about the importance of education, believing in themselves, and never giving up on their dreams despite the challenges surrounding them.

We spoke with them about staying in school and discussed the risks of child labor and early marriage, reminding them that every child has the right to learn, play, grow in a safe environment, and become part of Syria’s future.

Children are our greatest hope.

One of the most inspiring stories came from Ahmed, a young boy who demonstrated remarkable talent in solving puzzles and building with LEGO blocks.

He spent much of the activity creating different structures with great focus before proudly telling us that he dreams of becoming an engineer so he can rebuild his family’s home and help rebuild his country.

Before leaving, he asked if we could bring more puzzles and building sets during future activities because they help him learn, think creatively, and bring him one step closer to his dream.

Another story that deeply touched our team was shared by Khaled, an orphan who told us that after losing his father, his mother has struggled to provide even the family’s basic daily needs.

Buying toys has simply become impossible because every available resource goes toward food and essential expenses.

While holding the gifts and toys he received from the Hope Box, Khaled smiled shyly and told us that it had been a very long time since he had received anything new. His words reminded us that even a simple moment of joy can mean the world to a child living through such difficult circumstances.

At the end of the activities, many children gathered around our team asking us not to let this be the last visit.

They also shared their wishes for the upcoming school year, asking for new school backpacks, new clothes, notebooks, pencils, crayons, and art supplies to help them start school with confidence and excitement. Their requests reflected not only their immediate needs but also their determination to continue learning and building a better future.

Listening carefully to children during these activities provides us with valuable feedback that helps us better understand their real needs and identify the priorities that require immediate attention.

Children naturally express what they are missing, what worries them, and what they dream about. Their voices guide us in improving our programs and preparing future interventions that respond to their evolving needs.

The Hope Box project is much more than a recreational activity.

It creates safe spaces where children feel seen, heard, protected, and valued.

It also allows our team to identify children who may need additional psychosocial support or protection services and connect them with appropriate assistance whenever needed.

The need for child protection and psychosocial support remains immense across Syria, where thousands of children continue to live with the consequences of war, displacement, poverty, and disasters. With your continued support, we can reach many more children, expand psychosocial and recreational activities, provide educational supplies, and continue investing in children because they are the hope and future of Syria.

We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who has supported the Hope Box project.

Your generosity provides far more than toys and activities.

It restores hope, brings back smiles, strengthens resilience, and reminds children that they are not alone and that someone believes in their future. We hope this support will continue to grow so we can reach even more children and make the Hope Box bigger each time, filling it with everything children dream of, including toys, books, school backpacks, new clothes, notebooks, crayons, art supplies, and all the things that help them learn, create, and simply enjoy being children. Every child deserves to open a Hope Box and find something that speaks to their dreams, gives them another reason to smile, and reminds them that the future still holds hope.

This is only the beginning. Every child we meet reminds us that behind every smile is a dream waiting for the chance to grow. With your continued support, we can reach many more children, expand the Hope Box initiative, and fill every box with happiness, hope, learning, creativity, and opportunities that help children believe in themselves and in a brighter future. Together, we are not only supporting children today—we are investing in the generation that will shape tomorrow.
