This project will take AfriKids to 60 new communities in northern Ghana, ensuring some of the world's hardest to reach and poorest children are healthy, safe and in school and have hope for a brighter future.
20 years ago when AfriKids was born in dusty remote villages of northern Ghana, 1 in every 6 children were dying before their 5th birthday. Today, 1 in 16 children die before their 5th birthday. Change is happening, but we still have much to do. Even now, 2 in 3 families are living in poverty and children are at risk as a result. 47% of of 5-17 years old are in child labour, 26% of girls are married before their 18th birthday and 450,000 children are estimated to be out of school.
Over 50% of Ghana's population are children. With the right investments, we can harness their potential to drive economic growth and social progress. Your support will take AfriKids to 60 new hard to reach communities. We will deliver education, health and child protection programmes so that parents are able to provide the happy and healthy childhoods they want for their children, and we will be one step closer to our goal to make Ghana a beacon for child rights - saving lives and little smiles.
The project will transform the lives of 62,580 children and their families who would otherwise be left behind. Key impact includes: - 46,500 children supported with quality education and 720 teachers trained - 20,000 children educated on their rights - 16,200 children using e-learning in school - 3,000 girls learning Science, Tech, Engineering and maths (STEM) -525 women supported with the skills and microfinance to start and grow a business so they can provide a better life for their family.
