Thank you to everyone who contributed to our 10,000 Books Campaign!

With your help, we reached our goal. Books + science kits were distributed at meal pickup sites, at schools from Oakland to Gilroy, and at libraries and homeless shelters.

Our parent survey showed that the kids loved the books: “My girls LOVED their science books. We did two, and they kept begging me for more! Every parent's dream.”

The same survey also showed that kids can do the experiments on their own - a very important skill of self initiation and independence.

This summer we will create at least one more book and will continue with our distribution.

We're excited to report that we handed out 4,500 books so far. In our December parent survey we found over 85% of kids can do all or most of the activities on their own and that all parents are using the adult companion.

...and 4,000 more are going out in March and April to communities very hard hit by the pandemic, including one where about 40% of children are homeless.

We started a partnership with an arts non-profit to work on science and arts books (STEAM) and showcase their overlap. The sci/art books will be available this summer. Stay tuned for details.

Hi everyone!

In October we handed out an additional 1,000 books thanks to a generous grant from a local community foundation. In partnership with a local school district, we set up tables at the same time that families came to pick up meals from the food pantry and handed out our books. We had help from staff of the food pantry and teachers at the school.

Kids were thrilled to get the books, and school staff were glad to be able to provide this resource to their students.

We'd love to get more books to more kids in time for the holidays...can you help us out? Just $10 gives a book and a kit to a student.

Thank you for continuing to support this project.

Dear friends -

We handed out the first books today! This book - Jasmine and Jose Build a Playhouse - is geared towards kindergarteners. It was handed out during meal pickup time at a local elementary school. Families who cannot afford to buy food for their children come to this site twice a week to pick up meals.

With generous support from the KLA foundation, we were able to purchase materials and assemble kits so students can do hands-on science as soon as they get home.

One parent said "Thank you so much! My daughter loves science and will be excited to have this"

We are creating more books and purchasing more materials. A donation of just $10 will enable us to bring a kit to a child.

Thank you for supporting this project!
