Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund

Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund

Summary

A 7.2 magnitude earthquake has caused widespread damage in Haiti, where the impact of the deadly 2010 earthquake is still felt. There is widespread damage to buildings and more than 2,000 people have been killed. GlobalGiving is working closely with our partners on the ground to get emergency support to them in this time of need. Your donation will go to vetted nonprofits providing emergency relief, water, food, medicine, and shelter in Haiti.

Challenge

The earthquake has caused widespread damage and overrun hospitals. As GlobalGiving learned from our response to the 2010 earthquake, it is vital to get funds to locally-led nonprofits that can respond to the community needs to provide both emergency relief as well as long-term recovery.

Solution

All donations to this fund will support earthquake relief and recovery efforts in Haiti. Initially, the fund helps first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. As needs emerge, we will support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations in the impacted area.

How Your Donation Will Be Used

When you donate to GlobalGiving's Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund, your donation will be used to:

  • Provide food, water, and emergency medical supplies to people
  • Support temporary relief and emergency supplies for displaced families
  • Meet other needs that emerge

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
