Thank you for your generous contribution to the Haiti Crisis Relief Fund. Your donations continue to make a difference, ensuring Haitians have access to food, medical care, and other basic needs amidst escalating violence and insecurity.

Since January 2024, an estimated 1,500 people have been killed in gang violence as turmoil continues to consume more regions of the country, pushing hunger to unprecedented levels. Almost half of the country’s population can't purchase food from markets due to shortages caused by closed ports and blocked roads by gangs.  Hospitals in Haiti are simultaneously facing critical shortages of staff and medical supplies.

Since our last update, our team has centered donations from the Haiti Crisis Relief Fund around three grants to high-impact and community-led nonprofit organizations at the forefront of this crisis.

Here is a short description of some of the critical work you’ve supported:

  • Sustainable Organic Integrated Livelihoods (SOIL) continues to expand its EkoLakay service to distribute more in-house, safe toilets for communities that need them. This protects communities from waterborne diseases and the risk of experiencing gang violence at public facilities. SOIL also leads composting projects to help farmers improve degraded land and grow more nutritious produce to combat Haiti’s malnutrition crisis. By connecting waste to prosperity, SOIL merges public health and climate-positive environmental solutions to protect Haitian people and land on all levels. SOIL’s deep social roots in Haiti enable quick responses in times of crisis like these. Utilizing their deep foundation of trust, they lead communication outreach to share urgent public health information with their neighbors and fellow community members. This work prevents outbreaks of waterborne illnesses in Haiti, where the risk of diseases like cholera is higher than ever as systems and services collapse.
  • Fondation Tous Ensemble (FONTEN) is a Haitian-led organization showing up for children and adults with disabilities in big ways during this crisis and beyond. Their Haitian team has offered a wide range of services - including mobile clinics, aid and prosthetics distributions, and clinical consultations - for more than 8 years. Because people with disabilities in emergencies often face greater barriers in accessing care, FONTEN is working hard against these odds to ensure that no one is left behind and that those with different needs receive culturally sensitive, appropriate care and communication. Run by a team of Haitians for the past eight years, they can engage with community members without language or cultural barriers and with the understanding of potential stigmas that people with disabilities may face within the local context.
  • Concorde Haïtienne de Sécurité Alimentaire et Nutritionnelle (CHSAN) works in the rural and mountainous region of Grand'Anse in southwestern Haiti, where aid is less easy to access, by providing food packages and drinking water to families who cannot leave their homes because of violence. CHSAN is also distributing quality seeds to more than 500 farmers to enable them to grow their own food and combat hunger from their own backyards.

Your support of the GlobalGiving Haiti Crisis Relief Fund powers community-led responses where it’s needed most. Your generosity means the world to our partners and ensures they can access the critical resources they need as this crisis continues without end in sight

Despite these difficult times, hope is not lost in our partners’ eyes as they see the powerful solidarity efforts within their communities and international ones thanks to people like you.

In the words of Pierre, from FONTEN:

“You can't imagine how grateful we are for the love you and your team showed and the support you provide to our program. In your email, you stated that if we have any questions and concerns about the grant to let you know. So my concern is that I don't know how to say Thank you as a question.  Then, on behalf of all the FONTEN staff and beneficiaries, we thank you for the unconditional support to our program in a period of very difficult time in Haiti.”

From our partners and our team, thank you—we cannot say it enough.

With gratitude,

Kyra + the GlobalGiving Team

P.S. — The good doesn’t stop there! In addition to the above partners, your support has reached a broad range of organizations responding in their communities, and you can follow their work on the GlobalGiving platform:

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
