Thank you for your generous donation to the Haiti Crisis Relief Fund. Donations to this GlobalGiving Fund are already making a difference, helping to provide emergency assistance to people in need and support long-term response efforts led by local organizations in Haiti.

Since you gave, donations from the Haiti Crisis Relief Fund have supported four grants to high-impact and community-led nonprofit organizations at the forefront of this crisis.

Here is what one partner in our Haiti Crisis Relief Fund wanted you to know about the impact of your donation:

“While humanitarian crisis relief and disaster relief is vital, we must also see beyond immediate crises. The basic human right to dignified, compassionate, evidence-based health care always remains a constant. Thank you for your constant support and in helping us continue our ongoing efforts to heal and build a stronger Haiti.”  —  Martine, Foundation for Advancement of Haitian Midwives, Inc (FAHM)

Here is a short description of some of the critical work you’ve supported:

  • Foundation for Advancement of Haitian Midwives, Inc (FAHM) — is assisting Haitian midwives in promoting the midwifery profession and model of care in Haiti so that midwives can be positioned as public health leaders in their community especially amidst the current humanitarian crisis. Most recently, FAHM  trained 250 midwives in sexual and reproductive health, trauma-informed care, and other forms of service improvement in support of Haitian mothers and communities. FAHM also spearheads a tree planting, youth empowerment, and environmental protection project ensuring 500 youth and their families have nutritional food sources right in their backyards while they receive quality health education.
  • Asosyasyon Peyizan Fondwa(APF) — continues to run a healthcare clinic in a remote, rural area of Fowda where communities can access lifesaving and preventative care. In partnership with GlobalGiving, APF will be able to purchase enhanced medical equipment to better treat patients, pay their staff, as well as provide employment for 40 farmers who lost their income due to the floods’ effects on agricultural lands in Haiti this past summer. These farmers will be employed to repair the flooded Fondwa Road, which helps connect community members to the clinic and further guarantees those who need APF’s support can access it.
  • Health Equity International (formerly  St. Boniface Hospital) — operates a clinical care network that is the largest health care provider for over 2 million people in southern Haiti and serves as a model health system for the entire country. Here, medical professionals at every level of their careers come to train and expand their skills. HEI’s community health team serves more than 50,000 people in the area surrounding Fond Des Blancs, and their earthquake mobile clinics are reaching tens of thousands more patients throughout the South.
  • Economic Stimulus Projects for Work and Action (ESPWA) — continues to work as a “bridgebuilder” in Haitian communities with a Haitian-led leadership network and with members in both Haiti and the US. In response to the ongoing crisis and famine in Haiti, ESPWA has focused its work on reinforcing food and nutrition security in Grand Sud, Southern Peninsula — a critical region for Haiti’s food security and its environment. By funding community-selected projects of its local partners, ESPWA helps guarantee Haitians’ access to food, clean water, and ensures historically excluded persons have a voice in the longer term development of their community.

Your support of the GlobalGiving Haiti Crisis Relief Fund powers community-led responses, and it means GlobalGiving’s partners get the critical resources they need to help their community survive and rebuild amid the ongoing crises in Haiti.

With gratitude,

Haitians are facing an ongoing humanitarian crisis. Last year, a particularly concerning and reinforcing set of circumstances, including skyrocketing fuel prices, catastrophic levels of hunger, the return of cholera, and violence, erupted across the country.

Your swift support of the Haiti Crisis Relief Fund has been critical in meeting the needs of communities, including people who are particularly vulnerable to the consequences of the current crisis.

Thanks to your donation, three high-impact nonprofit organizations are using their expertise to quickly serve Haitian children and families in need.

Here is a short description of some of the critical work you’ve supported:

  • Health Equity International (HEI) provides health services to Haitians through their hospitals and clinics. This includes prenatal screenings for thousands of women, and malnutrition programs. HEI is investing in health services to treat and prevent the spread of the recent cholera outbreak.
  • Fondation Tous Ensemble (FONTEN) is working with community members who experience disability—a group that is often overlooked during times of crisis. Despite upticks in violence in 2022, FONTEN returned to work in its rehabilitation center, caring for patients. FONTEN is also preparing a campaign against cholera, focused on people with disabilities, to improve their access to safe water and sanitation and prevention of the deadly disease.
  • Sonje Ayiti Organization is addressing immediate transportation challenges and providing ongoing programs, including a potable water campaign to help families prevent various water-related diseases. The organization is also organizing mental health projects to address the psychological impacts of the crisis on children and their families, and craft, cooking, and education projects for children.

Your support of GlobalGiving’s Haiti Crisis Relief Fund is powering community-led responses and delivering life-saving aid to Haitians. The need remains enormous for impacted communities across the country. Despite the circumstances threatening lives and livelihoods, nonprofit leaders are responding with commitment and leadership. As our partners’ incredible work continues, we will share another update about how your donation is making a difference.

With gratitude,

Kyra + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
