Most of the island and our Guam farmers have made a full recovery from the devastating effects of Super Typhoon Mawar that hit Guam on May 24, 2023. We saw the first harvest of vegetables back in early September 2023. Since then, our fruit trees have started to produce a harvest. Bananas and our much loved calamansi have become available to the island community. Farm fresh eggs have also been readily available for the last 6 months.
Guahan Sustainable Culture continues to provide support to our farmers by sharing information with them that will help them protect and grow their farms. Our farmer work center remains open during the week as a place for farmers to come and make use of our computers, printers and knowledgeable team members. The work center was opened shortly after Super Typhoon Mawar to assist our farmers with completing their applications and uploading required documents and photos for the various disaster relief programs that were available to them.
