Oceanic Ascent Education aka Guahan Sustainable Culture will help our farmers, in areas of financial support, mental health, well-being needs, and more, as well as help provide food for those in need. The financial support will allow them to purchase the resources needed to replant their farms and restore their livelihoods as well as provide fresh, local food to the people of Guam.
On May 24, 2023, the island of Guam was hit by Super Typhoon Mawar which brought heavy rains and sustained winds of 150mph. Guam experienced substantial flooding, island-wide devastation, and power and water outages. Most of the farmers experienced a total loss of their crops and livestock as well as damage to their equipment and supplies. We fear that we may permanently lose a majority of our farmers, resulting in the destruction of our food systems because of this disaster.
Oceanic Ascent Education will provide seeds, seedlings, and saplings to farmers that will enable them to replant their lost crops and trees. We will provide monetary resources that will go towards enabling farmers to replace damaged tools and supplies and chicken coops. We will also provide farmers with the technical resources and support they need to find other sources of funding for their farms.
The sooner the local farmers of Guam can rebuild and replant their farms, the sooner they can restore their livelihoods and provide fresh, local foods to the people of Guam. In addition, food security and sustainability can be restored as well as the thriving agriculture we had before Super Typhoon Mawar devastated the island of Guam.
