During the reporting period, NAAF's education programs continued to foster growth, confidence, and academic success for students across the GuVo District. At San Simon Elementary, the After-School Program remains a thoughtful and lively space where students engage in STEM-focused activities, problem-solving exercises, and cultural learning experiences. From launching bottle rockets to designing solar-powered models, students developed critical thinking skills through trial and error—learning resilience and adaptability along the way.
O’odham language immersion remains a core part of daily programming, with students incorporating greetings, directions, and storytelling into their conversations - building confidence in their native language while reinforcing cultural identity. NAAF’s Ce:Ce:m A’al o O’odham Ñeñok Early Childhood Education Program has also been thriving, with 16 students actively engaged. Interactive learning remains the cornerstone of their experience, with movement-based activities, music, and cooking workshops enriching their understanding of language and basic concepts. A highlight of the reporting period was the Cooking with HPC session, where young learners were introduced to hands-on food preparation and nutrition, encouraging independence and curiosity.
With graduation right around the corner, five students are preparing to transition to kindergarten, marking an exciting milestone in their educational journey. For older students pursuing their GED, progress remains steady, with eight individuals working toward completing their exams. A particularly exciting moment came when one of NAAF's GED participants was inducted into the Adult Education Honor Society, recognizing his commitment to academic growth and peer leadership—a testament to how the pursuit of knowledge can be a lifelong journey.
Meanwhile, efforts to support high school seniors moving toward higher education continued, with the introduction of a new workshop designed to demystify the college application process. The initiative, titled "Everything You Wanted to Know About Applying to College But Were Afraid to Ask," aims to equip students with the tools they need to confidently navigate scholarships, financial aid, and admissions.
As always, we look forward to sharing graduation highlights and success stories from some of the District’s young scholars in the next update.
