This project aims to provide mountainous preschool students in Bao Lam district, Cao Bang province, Vietnam with boarding lunch and educational conditions. The assistance will help them have more nutritious diet and better learning condition, thereby improve their health, reduce malnutritional rate and encourage them attend school regularly. In addition, the project will also raise public awareness about nutrition care and spread the values of sharing with difficult children.
Preschool students in Bao Lam district, Cao Bang province, Vietnam are facing many difficulties and privations, including the lack of electricity and water in school, and the absence of nutritious boarding school meals. Hence, 100% of children suffer from malnutrition and stunting. This situation has drawn underdevelopment of children's physical and mental health, and high rate of dropout. Further, this will affect future labor resources and local social security.
This project will mobilize individual benefactors to patronize kindergarteners with only 75 USD/child/school year. Lunch cooking activities will be carried out at the school sites with guidance from nutrition specialists in the locality. The project also provides knowledge and skills on proper nutritional practices for school chefs, teachers and parents to help the children have healthy meals both in and out of school. Furthermore, school facilities will be improved to meet the need of students.
The project contributes to improving the physical and mental health of children, especially ethnic minority children in mountainous areas, ensuring children's right to care and survival. When children are provided with proper and adequate nutrition, they will be healthier and motivated to go to school. Therefore reducing illiteracy rates and contributing to local social security.
