Continue to expand the project
- Recently received a new order for 16 more herdsman families for this new power generation system. The equipment will be installed in May, 2016.
- Whereas the government and project donations/grant paid for 80% of the equipment during the pilot project, the herdsman are now willing to pay most of the cost themselves. With the increase in income from use of the equipment, they can get payback on their investment within two years.
- The project team has designed projects outside the grasslands as well. In October 2015, we designed the solar power system for the Hope School of Yi Minority in Liangshan, Sichuan Province. The Hope School accepted our design and the system has been installed to generate green power for their 3 dormitories and 4 classrooms.
Our hope is that the Grasslands project will bring power accessibility to more remote areas.

Teach herdsman on equipment maintenance
By Cathy Ren | General Manager
As the weather goes cold and windy in winter, the solar and wind power generation system easily got breakdown due to sandstorm and cold temperature. So, the project team focuses on teaching herdsman families how to fix common problems. The project team created the mannuel of common problems fixing method. The mannuels were distributed to the families and taught by project team before winter comes.
THe project team also found a local herdsman who is talented at engennering. So, the team trained this herdsman as the local project leader to help other herdsman family. If they can't fix by themselve, they can call this well trained neighbor and ask for his support.
Through mannuel, general training and this well trained local herdsman, the project team needn't travel long distance to support the equipment maintennance and just take phone calls to answer their question and guid them to fix by themselves.

20 more families get the green power solution

We are so happy to update that the project team successfully expand their green power solutions to 20 more families. The success of first 3 pilot families really attracted more herdsman families to learn this project and showed a lot of interest. The local government was convinced to accolate some stipend as well to support local herdsman families to install this power generation system.
When the project team installed the wind and solar combined system to herdsman's families, big thank you and warm hug is the most wonderful gift from the herdsmen. Their lives and livelyhood were improved so much. They can now watch TV, eat fresh fruit by using refrigerator, and connect the outside world by using smart phone. More importantly, they can largely improve their goats raising efficency and effectiveness. They now can use elstric appliances to feed the goats, warm the baby goats, and water them. The local herdsman can raise more goats with much less time and human labor.
From 3 pilot and 20 more established families, the project team made one more big step further. We plan to expand this project to more and more herdsman families in the future.
