RISE Goal Card staff took 8 young ladies from our Goal Card site schools to FedEx Aviation center. The girls toured the facilities and immersed themselves in the training and processes that pilots are given. The simulation allowed the ladies to go in the cockpit and receive trial runs as a pilot. This experience gave these young ladies an opportunity to get a firsthand glimpse and feel of a career that they may not have otherwise been exposed to.
Kayla, one of RISE’s students, described her conversations with the pilots. She said the exposure was motivating and it was an experience that she will never forget. “I would have never had an opportunity to be in a cockpit. I have never flown in an airplane before. So, to also have the chance to talk to an actual girl pilot AND sit in the pilot’s seat was cool.”
Because of donors like you, RISE can provide life changing opportunities to the children in the program. This simulation was a reward for the students with the highest grades, attendance and conduct. Please consider giving to RISE to help us continue inspiring students across the Memphis area.
